Tourist Tax

Tourist tax

The Municipality of Riomaggiore, Monterosso and Vernazza have approved from 2015 the institution of the tourist tax.

This tax is effective from 2015, is in force throughout the year and today consists of the payment of € 3,00 per night per person for the first three (3) days of stay.

Children under the age of 11, guides and drivers of groups staying in the municipality are exempt from paying.

The tourist tax was introduced following the reform of fiscal federalism. With fiscal federalism, municipalities were given the opportunity to establish so-called purpose-specific municipal taxes, including the introduction of the tourist tax. The proceeds from the tourist tax must therefore be reinvested by the municipality solely in the tourism sector. "The related revenue – as stated in paragraph 1 of article 4 of Legislative Decree no. 23 of March 14, 2011 – is intended to finance interventions in the field of tourism, including those supporting accommodation facilities, as well as maintenance, enjoyment, and recovery of local cultural and environmental assets, as well as related local public services.
