Riomaggiore is the southernmost village of the Cinque Terre, located merely two minutes away by train from Manarola.

Hiking the path from Riomaggiore to Manarola

In Riomaggiore, one can find the Via dell’Amore, or Lover’s Lane, a picturesque pathway celebrated for its romantic ambiance and stunning vistas. This entirely level trail connects to Manarola in under 30 minutes. It remained closed from 2012 to 2024 due to a landslide. The path is accessible daily from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM between April 1 and October 31. During the winter months, it operates from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, from November 1 to March 31. The hike is unidirectional, allowing passage solely from Riomaggiore to Manarola. Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the Ligurian Sea while guides narrate the history of the Via dell’Amore. Reservations for time slots must be made in advance through the website www.viadellamore.info. For those seeking an alternative route, the Via Beccara offers a more challenging hike from Riomaggiore to Manarola, taking approximately one hour. This trail ascends steeply over the mountain before descending on the opposite side and is available at no cost.
