Craftsmanship in Cinque Terre

In  Cinque Terre,  traditional craftsmanship has unfortunately become a rarity.
As you stroll through the narrow streets lined with souvenir shops, you may notice that the majority of the items for sale are mass-produced goods imported from countries such as China, India, and Taiwan.
These products, while often colorful and appealing, lack the unique touch and cultural significance that come from local artisans. However, amidst this sea of generic souvenirs, there are still a few dedicated local artisans who strive to preserve the rich heritage of craftsmanship in the Cinque Terre.
These talented individuals create handmade items that reflect the region's history, culture, and natural beauty. From intricately designed ceramics to beautifully woven textiles, their work embodies the spirit of the Cinque Terre and offers visitors a genuine piece of the area to take home.
In the coming updates, we will shine a spotlight on these local artisans, sharing their stories, showcasing their creations, and providing information on where you can find their work. By supporting these craftsmen and women, you not only acquire a unique souvenir but also contribute to the preservation of traditional skills and the local economy. So, please stay tuned for more information and discover the hidden gems of craftsmanship that the Cinque Terre has to offer.

Fabbrica d'Arte - Monterosso

Since 1982, artisans have been engaged in the crafting and decoration of ceramics at the Fabbrica d’Arte workshop, located just outside Monterosso in the Cinque Terre region.
Over nearly four decades of operation, these skilled hands have refined their techniques, embraced experimentation, and learned from both mistakes and discoveries. As a result, they are now able to offer unique pieces that possess their own authentic character.

Fabbrica d’Arte Monterosso represents a project, an idea, and a dream that materializes each day.
It embodies art, craftsmanship, and dedication. Within their workshop, five pairs of hands from two families come together daily. Milla and Franz, who founded the workshop nearly 40 years ago after completing a ceramics course driven by their passion, are joined by Jenny and Diego, who later fell in love with ceramics. Lastly, there is Adele, the daughter of Milla and Diego.

The essence of Fabbrica d’Arte Monterosso is the result of this collaboration: two studios in Monterosso and a workshop situated a short distance from the village, where the sea and mountains exchange gentle breezes, right in the heart of the Cinque Terre.

They have two shops:
Via Roma, 9 - Monterosso al Mare
Via Vittorio Emanuele, 27 - Monterosso al Mare
