Train Strike

What to do in case of strike?
Essential services in the event of strike
During strike days, Trenitalia ensures a minimum level of transport services, which is established through agreements with unions and in accordance with the provisions of the Commission designated to uphold Law 146/1990.
For local transport, necessary services are scheduled during the peak periods (from 06:00 to 09:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00, Monday to Saturday). Additionally, certain long-distance trains are available even on holidays.

If a train is en route when a strike starts and is not canceled at its departure location, it will typically complete its journey to the final destination, provided that the destination is within one hour of the strike's onset. After this hour, the train may halt and terminate at stations prior to reaching its endpoint.

Beyond the essential services, Trenitalia may also offer supplementary services, with details available through notifications at railway stations, via the media, and on this website.

Given that unforeseen changes (such as rerouting for long-distance trains) may arise during a strike, passengers are encouraged to stay vigilant and pay close attention to announcements made at train stations and reported by the media.
Train Strike Tips

- Stay updated: each time you visit the train stations, be sure to inquire about any potential strikes on the horizon ("Sciopero" in italian);
- If a strike is imminent, secure a taxi immediately: options are limited in this area, and finding an available taxi during a strike can prove quite challenging.
- Organize your hiking plans around the scheduled times of the strike.
